The Parish Soup Kitchen and Pantry
Monday, March 1, 2004 the doors of Sacred Heart Parish
Hall opened for a spaghetti supper and served 26 guests. The following
Monday more came; by the end of the month we had served 214 guests. By the
end of the year 2004 we had served 3,437 guests. From March 2004 through to
December 2011; 71,851 guests
have been served!
Praise the Father for allowing us to greet and serve
His Son Jesus our Lord!
We go on - every Monday between 5 and 6 o'clock we
serve supper to anyone who enters the Parish Hall. This supper is free.
Although it serves those who are in need of a meal; anyone who enters will
be fed without question. Christ takes on many appearances and it is the same
Christ who walks through our threshold!
Whom do we serve?
We serve Christ!
Every second and fourth Monday of the month the food
pantry is open from 4 to 5 o'clock. All we ask of our guests of the pantry
is to please, please bring your own bags. We do not nor do we believe in
handing out prepared bags of food items that most would not want or need. As
our guests come through the line they are able to choose those food items
that they would need. On occasion we also have some personal hygiene items,
home items and clothing; but this is rare. We ask only how many in the
family; the number of those under 18, those 18 through 65 and those over 65.
This will enable us to have accurate statistics and will allow us to see the
percentage of greatest need. From January 2005 to December 2011: 19,910
guests have been aided by the Food Pantry.
Both the Soup Kitchen and the Food Pantry are totally
dependent on the generosity of others. We are not supported by any
government or any other agency and all who work, do so voluntarily.
If you would care to volunteer your time in this
corporal work of mercy, show up in the Parish Hall by 3 o'clock any Monday.
We will welcome you as Christ, to serve Christ.
